Project details
This picturesque farm located in inland Uruguay is a family-operated business managed by Roberto, Margo, Rebeca, and Gabriela. The concept originated from their profound passion for horses and the aspiration to lead a sustainable lifestyle in the countryside. For several years, the farm has served as a holiday retreat for horse enthusiasts and riders, attracting both national and international tourists. Visitors can come for the day or choose to stay overnight in one of the guest rooms for one or more nights.
Alongside the owner families, approximately 15 horses, dogs, cats, chickens, geese, a pig, a sheep, and a cow, along with other farm animals, find a welcoming home here (the quantity and variety of animals may vary). The tranquil atmosphere and stunning surroundings exude a special charm. Time seems to move at a more leisurely pace in this setting. While riding on horseback, one can almost experience the life of a true gaucho.
The 17-hectare private property gives you the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside, immerse yourself in the local culture, improve your Spanish and learn about horses. A nearby lake invites you to rest and relax.
The farm offers farm holidays, horseback riding excursions and special activities for day visitors taking a countryside getaway.
This farm stay program is unique if you want to get involved in Uruguayan country life, like to be surrounded by lots of animals and are not afraid of physical work. You should be open to other people and cultures, because on the farm you will have contact with locals and foreigners.
Recently the farm has also focused on horse training working with young horses that have had little or no contact with humans. Horses are trained with patience and dedication, and after six months they return to their owners with proper handling skills and a personalized guide. In addition, the farm offer riding lessons and first-contact experiences for anyone interested. All volunteers may receive riding lessons, and the farm staff is happy to share their knowledge.
Tasks
A farm like that is a lot of work. The volunteers mainly work outdoors in the good, fresh country air. There are tasks in different areas that are planned and divided up on a weekly basis. The many animals have to be taken care of, the horses have to be moved and trained, the vegetable garden needs attention and you can also help out in the kitchen. Since 2025, the farm has operated its own organic shop, selling its own produce as well as homemade snacks and products.
Take this unique opportunity and get to know life and work on a Uruguayan farm. You can expect a pleasant working atmosphere, nice people and many opportunities to explore the impressive landscape in your free time or on excursions.
Farm stays with horses are among our most popular programs. Volunteers are not required to have previous horse experience; however, it is important to understand that your tasks will be limited according to your skills. Working with animals requires responsibility, patience, and respect for their well-being.
Volunteers without horse experience will mainly assist with basic tasks such as feeding, grooming, cleaning stables, and helping prepare horses for rides. Those with more experience may also support in training sessions, groundwork, and guiding horseback rides with guests. In all cases, you will learn about natural horsemanship techniques and gain valuable hands-on experience.
The following tasks give you an insight into possible activities during your farm work in Uruguay:
Organic Gardening & Greenhouse Care
- Plant, cultivate, and harvest seasonal organic vegetables
- Support greenhouse care and maintenance for healthy crop growth
- Contribute to composting and recycling efforts that keep the ranch sustainable
Animal Care
- Help feed and care for farm animals daily (horses, cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, and more)
- Ensure their living areas are clean, safe, and comfortable
- Learn how to monitor animal health and well-being
Horse Training & Handling

- Assist trainers with the handling and training of young horses
- Gain hands-on experience in groundwork and gentle breaking-in processes
- Feed, groom, and exercise the horses

- Guide horseback rides with guests (only for volunteers with advanced riding skills)
Organic Shop & Homemade Snacks
- Support the ranch’s organic shop, helping with the presentation and sale of natural products
- Assist in preparing and serving homemade snacks made with fresh ingredients from the garden
Guest Relations & Farm Maintenance
- Welcome and interact with guests during their stay
- Assist in the kitchen and with meal preparation
- Help with gardening, fence repairs, and general farm or household maintenance
*Farm Stays with horses are among our most demanded programs. These farms prefer participants who have previous knowledge of working with horses, and who are experienced riders. Although we try hard, we cannot guarantee placements on a horse-related farm without any previous experience working with horses.
Accommodation
An important aspect of our Farm Stay programs in South America is full integration. During your farm work in Uruguay you will be accommodated in one of the 2 guest rooms directly on the farm. Each of the two guest rooms has 2 beds, so there is space for a maximum of 4 volunteers in total. We always try to accommodate volunteers in a single room if availability allows it.
The farm has running water, electricity and internet. The farm is run as sustainably and environmentally friendly as possible, which is why we ask that natural resources (water, electricity, etc.) be used consciously.
The farm stay program includes full board with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Groceries are provided so that volunteers can prepare their meals. There is a small shop about 500 meters from the farm where volunteers can buy additional groceries if they want to. Sometimes volunteers also can share meals with the family who lives on the farm.
Location
The farm is beautifully situated about 70 km north of Montevideo, the state capital of Uruguay. It takes about 1 hour to reach Montevideo. It is about 100 km to the popular seaside resort of Punta del Este, while Atlantida on the Atlantic is only 30 km away. The nearest town, 15 minutes away, is called San Jacinto and has about 7,0000 inhabitants.
This area is used intensively for agriculture. The main crops are grain, wine, vegetables and fruit, and there are also large farms that specialize in animal husbandry.
In recent decades, tourism in this area has grown in importance, driven by residents from the capital looking for rest and relaxation.
Language skills
Communication level Spanish is recommended so that you can fully engage in your Farm Stay project. On the Farm there are also English-speaking staff.
For optimal preparation for your farm work in Uruguay we encourage volunteers to participate in a Spanish course in Montevideo or Punta del Este before.
