Volunteer Work in a Day Care Center
(Guatemala)

I was based at a center in Antigua for children recovering from the effects of malnutrition. I worked 5 mornings a week 08.00-12.30, feeding, bathing, dressing, cuddling and playing with children from 6 months to 3 years old! Over 4 weeks, I bonded with many of the children and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. My homestay hosts were wonderful: welcoming, kind and friendly. I had 3 home-cooked, traditional meals a day...absolutely delicious! Antigua is a wonderful place - colourful and charming, with lots of interesting ruins. There was lots to do in my spare time and I had no safety concerns whatsoever. The local people were extremely friendly, ....go with an open mind and a smile and you'll be greeted warmly wherever you go! If you love being with children and are flexible and adaptable, this could be for you. South America Inside arranged everything for me and kept in touch with me, checking that I had settled into my accommodation and volunteer placement. Any requests or queries were dealt with quickly and I have no hesitation in recommending them.
