Working Holiday, Leisure sector / Ski Area
Placements in the Central and Soutern regions of Chile
flexible start and end dates between June and August
The Andes are up to 6,000 m high and offer excellent conditions for skiing or snowboarding with plenty of snow every year between the June and the end of August.
Chile is known for world-class ski slopes and is a popular destination for international professional athletes, so they can train even during the northern hemisphere summer.
Our program sites are located either in Chile's central region, i.e. in the ski resorts around Santiago de Chile or in southern Chile, in the area around Chillan, Temuco, Villarrica and Osorno.
Even for "non-skiers", there is a lot of winter fun in so-called snow parks. There, children and adults can let off steam in the snow and try out activities such as tubing, tobogganing, snow-biking or canopy.
Detailed information regarding your placement will be sent to your once we have completed the placement process. So, before your adventure starts, you will know exactly where you will work and live.
There are many different types of tasks in the ski resorts. Regardless of whether you prefer to look after customers directly or ensure a smoothly running business from the background, whether you prefer to work indoors or outdoors, in the morning or in the evening - there is a lot to do and there surely will be the perfect task for you.
During your working hours, you ensure a great winter holiday for the guests, while in your free time, it is your turn to enjoy the snow. Working Holiday in a Chilean ski resort means having fun in the snow, in the middle of European summer, without putting a strain on your budget!
Depending on the program place, possible tasks can be:
- Working at the reception of a hotel/office
- Selling ski passes
- Working in rental/sale of ski equipment
- Working in the snow parks
- Assistance in administration and marketing
- Customer Service
- Preparing/maintaining ski equipment
- Hotel work (if placed in a ski hotel)
Working Hours are between 30 - 40 hours/week (depending on the program place).
We will be accommodated in a single or shared room. The accommodation is provided by the program place and is usually located directly at the work place or close to it.
Breakfast or half board or full board is included, depending on the program. Meals are provided either as ready meals, food for self-cooking or money for grocery shopping.
Once we have finalized the placement process we will send you your personal placement offer with information about your accommodation, among other details.
Our Working Holiday partners for a ski experience are located either in Chile's central region, i.e. in the ski areas around Santiago de Chile, or in southern Chile in the areas around Chillan, Pucón and Osorno. In central Chile, the ski resorts are at 2,500 - 3,300 meters, so you should be careful if you have problems with high altitudes. In the south, the Andes are lower, and the climate is colder, so skiing is possible there at around 1,600 -2000 meters.
The ski resorts in Central Chile are the largest in the country, which is a good thing, because Santiago with its 7 million inhabitants is situated just here. They are about one and a half to two and a half hours away from Santiago. On nice weekends, many visitors from the capital come to the closest ski areas just for the day. On those days, there are plenty of guests up there.
During the winter holidays in July, the hotels fill up with families from Santiago and throughout the season, there are always guests from other parts of Chile and from around the world. Many Brazilians come to Chile to experience cold temperatures and snow, some of them for the first time in their life.
The ski resorts in southern Chile are significantly smaller, but very beautiful and are mostly on the slopes of volcanoes such as the famous Osorno and Villarrica, among others. It is impressive to start the descent not far below a crater and the views are breathtaking: The volcanoes are surrounded by deep green forests and idyllic lakes.
Spanish at communication level. For optimal preparation for your Working Holiday in Chile, we advise you to take a Spanish course before the program starts. This gives you the opportunity to slowly get used to the language, culture and mentality and to meet like-minded people in a relaxes atmosphere.
