Chile has 4,000 miles of coastline! There are many spots with perfect waves at the Pacific coast, which are popular in both the national and international surf scene. Inland, there are also countless of beautiful lakes and rivers, that offer best conditions for excellent water sports almost everywhere in the country.
In the last two decades, water sports, especially surfing, both as a leisure activity, and for competitions, have boomed in Chile. Surf schools and water sports operators have been set up on more and more beaches and the hype about surfing is steadily increasing. In addition to Chileans, international surfers have also discovered the Pacific coast of Chile. Internationally renowned surfing competitions take place here regularly.
Some of our partners also run other businesses in addition to the surf school. These include cafés and restaurants, small hostels, guest houses and tour agencies.
Detailed information regarding your program placement will be sent to you after the placement process has been completed. So, before your adventure starts, you will know exactly where you will work and live.
Tasks
What could be nicer than working with the sound of the Pacific waves in your ear and wind in your hair? Our partners, surf schools between Arica and the island of Chiloé, offer exactly that. You assist people how want to learn how to surf from all over Chile and ensure that they have a great time. In your free time, it's your turn to surf or relax on the beach.
Working Hours are between 30 - 40 hours/week (depending on the program place).
Depending on the program place, possible tasks can be:
- Surf equipment sale/rental
- Selling surf lessons
- Preparing/maintaining equipment
- Helping with cleaning and repair
- Assisting with surf lessons and coordination training
- Assisting in administration and marketing
- Customer Service
- Translation
- Working in the cafeteria (if available)
- Hotel work (if placed in a surf hotel)
Accommodation
You will be living in a single or shared room. The accommodation is provided by the program place and is usually located directly at the work place or close to it. Breakfast or half board or full board is included, depending on the program.
Meals are provided either as ready meals, food for self-cooking or money for grocery shopping. Once the placement process has finished we will send you your personal placement offer with information about your accommodation, among other details.
Location
Chile is one of the most diverse travel destinations in the world. You find can most of the world's climate zones and landscapes in just this one country - there is something for everyone! Chile offers an amazing range from desert to ice, from beach to pampas, from pristine rain forest to high mountains, that extends over 4,300 kilometers north-south (without Antarctica) between the Andes and the Pacific – including volcanoes, geysers and hot springs.
Many travelers, especially the younger ones, have to save money for a good while in order to make their dream of a journey through the magical landscapes of Chile come true. Our partners for Working Holiday in a surf school are located on the most beautiful beaches in Chile, between Arica in the far north and the island of Chiloé, on the threshold of Patagonia.
Northern Chile attracts with guaranteed sunshine, enchanting desert and semi-desert landscapes in the hinterland, starry nights and archaeological treasures. In the central region, the seaside resorts are clustered and therefore there is a vivid beach life and nightlife. The capital Santiago is not far away from the central coast and easy to reach for a weekend trip.
Pichilemu is the absolute surf hotspot in Chile, international competitions often take place here. In our Pichilemu language school you can improve your Spanish skills, before you start working.
Language skills
Spanish at communication level. For optimal preparation for your Working Holiday in Chile, we advise you to take a Spanish course before the program starts. This gives you the opportunity to slowly get used to the language, culture and mentality and to meet like-minded people in a relaxes atmosphere.
