Project details
Anyone who likes to get to know other cultures, feels comfortable being surrounded by evergreen nature, likes adventure, but still doesn't want to be "off the beaten path" is at the right place with this working holiday in the fancy southern Chilean holiday resort of Pucón. National and international Tourists come here all year round, especially in the Chilean summer months.
Our working holiday program in Pucón is offered by a relatively new River Lodge in the middle of nature, beautifully situated on a large river. The lodge consists of the main house with cozy guest rooms and small holiday homes ("cabañas"). The property offers large terraces at the Liucura River, extensive gardens with mountain views, a jacuzzi, sauna, BBQ area and riverside boat docks. The lodge accommodates 20 guests.
The Lodge is located 10 km from Pucón on the way to the scenic Lake Caburgua, very close to attractions such as Caburga Waterfall, Lake Villarrica and Lake Caburga, Villarrica National Park, Huerquehue National Park and other beautiful nature reserves. A variety of activities and guided tours such as sport fishing, trekking, kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, hot springs, volcano climbing, etc. can be organized from the lodge.
With this Working Holiday, you literally work where others vacation. You don't have to travel on your days off for adventure and relaxation, because many great options are waiting for you right on your doorstep!
Tasks
The tasks in this working holiday program in Pucón are in the area of hospitality and guest relations. Since the hotel is very small, everyone helps where help is needed. In the late morning and afternoon, guests are usually out, and the lodge is empty. Therefore, activities in the garden, in the area of cleanliness and order as well as maintenance are also part of the work area at these times.
Working time is approximately 8 hours a day, five days a week. The two days off are not necessarily at the weekend. The work is divided into two shifts, the morning shift and the late shift.
Your areas of responsibility include:
- Working at the lodge reception (check-in, check-out, answering phone calls, looking after guests, advising on excursions)
- Guest service, breakfast shift
- Prepare, clean and maintain equipment for excursions
- Everything to do with cleanliness and order
- Gardening
- Assisting in the maintenance of boats and jetties
- Other activities indoors and outdoors
Accommodation
You will be staying directly at the lodge in a room specially reserved for volunteers. The room has a private bathroom. The lodge offers two places for volunteers. If both places are occupied, the room and bathroom are shared. If you are the only volunteer on site, you have your own room and bathroom.
The Working Holiday site does not include meals. However, you get a meal subsidy of 80,000 pesos/month for grocery shopping (approx. US$ 95). You can store your groceries and prepare meals in the lodge's kitchen.
WiFi internet is available and can be used outside of working hours.
Location
Pucón is about 780 km south of the capital Santiago and is THE holiday resort par excellence. This pretty idyllic town right on Lake Villarrica is popular with Chilean and international tourists alike. Almost 30,000 people live in Pucón, a number that increases significantly, especially in the months from November to March. Pucón offers an excellent infrastructure for adventure tourism, a wide range of restaurants, shops and countless excursions. Pucón even has an active nightlife to offer.
The incomparable location makes this resort so popular. Visitors can wonderfully combine relaxation with culture, adventure, action and sport. Ever climbed a volcano, peered into the bubbling crater, and then slid down the snow? You can do that in Pucón!
The wonderful location right at the foot of the Villarrica volcano and the lake of the same name offer a picture-book panorama. Pucón is surrounded by dense evergreen forests, beautiful mountains and volcanoes, rivers and lakes. There are also beautiful waterfalls and thermal springs are somehow everywhere.
Pucón offers a wide range of sports, including surfing, trekking, hiking, rafting, kayaking, zip-lining, mountain biking, rapel. Several national parks and nature reserves offer endless hiking trails through untouched nature and the typical araucaria forests that gave the region its name. The Villarrica Volcano attracts mountaineers in the summer and skiers in the winter and even has a large cave system to visit.
