Mendoza, the capital of Mendoza Province in western Argentina, is a city with approximately 110,000 inhabitants, which jumps to about 800,000 when including the surrounding suburbs. It is located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains near the Aconcagua, South America’s highest peak. Mendoza is a perfect starting point for adventurous and interesting trips: Santiago de Chile is just across Andes mountains and can be reached in 7 hours by public bus; and Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital, Buenos Aires, can be reached via a 13 hours bus ride or a short flight – a perfect panorama for a long weekend! For those who like winter sports, the nearby ski regions are highly recommended. In addition, there are opportunities for other outdoor activities like horse riding, hiking, or rafting during the summer months. As the cultural and economic capital of the region, Mendoza has a lot to offer for your stay abroad. Besides many museums, galleries, movies, and discotheques, you can find plenty of cafes and restaurants, where locals and tourists alike enjoy authentic Argentinean dishes or international delicacies.
The unquestioned highlight of the year is “La Vendimia", the grape harvest celebration. The event attracts thousands of visitors every year, and you can find theatre- and dance performances, and fireworks throughout the town, and a wine queen is elected.
Wine plays a very important role in Mendoza, since viniculture is its biggest industry. The wine grows on the hills outside of town and is globally known for its superior quality. This is rather remarkable, mainly because Mendoza is located in a relatively dry area, and artificial channels throughout town secure the water supply.
The climate in Mendoza is characterized by seasonal changes. The summer months are dry (December to March), and temperatures can climb up to 35 °C (95 °F). During the winter months (June to August), the weather is humid, and day temperatures hover between 12 to 20 °C (54 to 68 °F).
All courses consist of three central elements of a language: grammar, listening and speaking. By implementing exercises and role playing, these elements are trained and consolidated. All teachers are Spanish native speakers and have several years of experience.. They do not only convey linguistic skills, but will also give you exciting insights into the Argentinean culture, lifestyle, history and traditions.
Students are assigned to one of 6 proficiency levels (A1 presente/pasado, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) according to CEFR (Common European Framework of References for Languages). On your first day of school, or online beforehand, you will do a placement test in order to determine your current language level.
