Program details
The Farm Stay program takes place in an exclusive lodge, which is located in the middle of the beautiful nature around the Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia. The lodge specializes in horseback riding tours through the unspoiled landscapes of Patagonia. It offers accommodation in 20 cozy guest rooms in the lodge and a further 14 rooms in the Refugio. The hotel rooms combine simplicity and comfort to guarantee guests a good night's sleep after a day of adventure. The breathtaking view of the Paine massif and the Paine river give the rooms a very special touch that turns them into a really fantastic place.
Thanks to its ideal location on the edge of the Torres del Paine National Park, the lodge really offers an extraordinary setting to explore the breathtaking nature of Patagonia on horseback. The lodge provides an extensive program of activities for guests, who come mainly from North America and Europe. While riding in the vast nature, guests can discover and marvel at fjords, mountain lakes, glaciers, the Paine massif, and local flora and fauna. The majestic landscapes make every excursion an unforgettable experience.
After a strenuous day in the fresh air, guests can indulge in culinary delights in the lodge's restaurant and recharge their batteries for the next day full of adventure.
During the high season, around 20 people work at the lodge, including hotel staff, riding guides and kitchen staff.
The team includes around 40 horses that have been specially trained for endurance riding. In addition to the horses, cows and other farm animals also call the lodge their home.
Tasks
Participants in this Farm Stay experience work closely with the staff who are responsible for looking after and caring for the horses.
The exact work plan will be determined on site. It depends, among other things, on the number of tourists, the weather and personal strengths, and abilities. In remote areas, such as the location of the lodge, work is generally carried out in shifts. The shifts are divided into blocks of 11 working days and 4 days off. On the days off, participants usually travel to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales, or they go on excursions to explore Patagonia on their own.
The tasks can include:
- Helping in the riding stables
- Feeding the horses
- Caring of the horses
- Keeping the grounds and stables clean
- Helping with training horses for endurance riding
- Preparation of horses for tourist excursions
- Accompany rides (only for participants with very good riding skills)
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
Accommodation
During the Farm Stay program you will live directly on the lodge property. A separate area is available for employees. There are dormitories with 3 beds each, shared bathrooms for women and men separately, as well as a cozy common room. You are not only part of the work structure but are also integrated into the community of the team.
Meals are also provided by the lodge and the program includes full board.
There is WIFI internet in the lodge that you can use outside of your working hours.
Location
The program is located in a place that many people dream of - the famous Torres del Paine National Park. It is one of the most breathtaking national parks, and not without reason. The unique landscape of Patagonia with imposing mountain massifs, mist-shrouded fjords, dense virgin forests, turquoise shimmering mountain lakes, raging mountain rivers and hanging glaciers, as well as an interesting flora and fauna offers the visitor truly unforgettable impressions. The Torres del Paine National Park is world famous for its bizarre rock formations and untouched nature.
The Farm Stay program is located at the Rio Serrano, just 5 minutes from the entrance to Torres del Paine. It is a 1.5-hour drive to the nearest city of Puerto Natales.
