Farm Stay, Farm Work, Agrotourism
Placements throughout the country
flexible start and end dates, year-round
Chile has become a hot spot for farm holidays in recent decades. There are vast landscapes to experience a cowboy feeling, and untouched rain forests that invite for an adventure. Many farms almost work like a hundred years ago, which is very attractive for tourists.
In the central region, there are many haciendas (traditional farmhouses) and wineries that have opened their gates to tourists, offering horseback riding or trekking in the countryside, cosy guest rooms and restaurants. In southern Chile, there are rather small hidden family run farms in a fairy-tale landscape, while in the vastness of Patagonia, many former Estancias (sheep farms) were turned into well-frequented tourism establishments with a wide range of excursions.
If you love being in the outdoors, if you like horses and other animals, and enjoy working in client service, then this kind of farm work is for you. During your Farm Stay in Chile you will be surrounded by nice people, amazing nature and lots of animals. Keep in mind that many program sites are remote, so you cannot expect the same diversity of leisure activities as in a city. Instead, you will experience a lot of fresh air, beautiful landscapes, inner peace and cultural integration.
When submitting your application, you are welcome to share your expectations and wishes regarding your placement. We will then focus on it as best we can. Your individual program description will be sent to you after we have completed the placement process. So, before you book your farm stay, you will have exact information on location, tasks, working hours, accommodation, etc.
While working on a touristic farm, you will take on a variety of tasks. You should be diligent and responsible, sociable and flexible. In general, you will deal with horses as well as with tourists, helping to work in the stables and in customer service. Many of the tasks depend on the region where you are placed.
Working Hours are between 30 and 40 hours per week (depending on program place).
The program description with information regarding the farm profile and your tasks will be send to you after the placement process has been completed.
Your tasks on a touristic farm can include:
- Moving and training horses
- Riding horses
- Feeding and caring for horses
- Bringing the horses to the pasture/stable

Our farm stay places are located in the central region, in the southern Chilean lake region, and in Patagonia. All three areas are very beautiful and allow you to know the Chilean country life and the way of life outside the big cities.
Each of the three regions has its own charm:
During a farm stay in Chile's central region there will usually be bright skies, sunshine and correspondingly high temperatures. Here you will find beautiful wineries and haciendas.
The idyllic vineyards are perfecto for hiking and horse riding and some wine hotels and wineries are even close to the ocean, so beach days are an option, too! In the Andes on the opposite side of the Central Valley you can go to trekking, horse riding, kayaking, do rafting adventures, climb mountain peaks and much more. Many of the farms there specialize in adventure and sports.
The southern Chilean lake region attracts with green meadows, picturesque landscapes, where city children can spend "farm holidays" and learn about country life. There are also paths through hidden valleys and pristine forests were known by the “arrieros” only for a long time. Climbing tours are possible here, as well as water sports and horse riding or hikes through fairytale forests, including beautiful waterfalls. It rains often in the south thus nature is very abundant and the temperatures are usually pleasant.
Patagonia invites to wild rides, amazing landscapes and untouched nature! Here you can feel like a cowboy after work (or even at work) and be enchanted by the vastness and wildness of this stunning landscape. Many of the beautiful old estancias are now set up as hotels or tourist attractions to give an idea of what it must have been like in Patagonia in the pioneering days.
Spanish at communication level. For optimal preparation for your Farm Work in Chile, we advise you to take a Spanish course before the program starts. This gives you the opportunity to slowly get used to the language, culture and mentality and to meet like-minded people in a relaxes atmosphere.
