Learning Spanish in Santiago de Cuba!

The city of Santiago the Cuba, located in the south east of Cuba, is the second largest city of the country and has approximately 420.000 inhabitants. It is the most important sea port of Cuba. Due to its geographic location and the influence of the Haitian, Africans and Spanish, Santiago de Cuba is considered to be the city with the most Caribbean charm. Art and music are two very important cultural features because Santiago de Cuba was home to a lot of artists that have become very popular. Being interested in history and culture you will absolutely fall in love with this beautiful corner of the country. There are approximately 15 museums in the city. The Bacardi Museum exposes the most important painting gallery of Cuba including paintings dated back two centuries and mummies of different origins. Bordering with the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Maestra Mountains, Cuba offers a wide variety of outdoor activities like trekking and diving.
SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM
The well-trained native staff consists of university certified Spanish language teachers. They cooperate as well with our language institutions in the cities of Havana and Trinidad and enjoy an excellent reputation for giving high quality Spanish lessons. You will not only be taught the Spanish language but will also get a deep insight into the lively and colorful culture of this beautiful country. Therefore, classes take place either in the cultural center in Santiago de Cuba, at the teacher’s or at your host family’s home. The cultural centers are public institutions where cultural activities like native dance classes take place. At the local meeting point, which is located in a residential area of the district Reparto Sueño, you will usually find a contact person in case you have any questions or would like to get further information.

SPANISH COURSES
Learning Spanish with other students, taking classes on your own or even combining both options – it’s up to you! All courses are offered in different levels of Spanish. In order to determine your current language skills you will take a short test on the first day of classes. The group course includes four lessons per day whereas the private course is divided into four, five or six lessons per day. Of course you can also combine group and private lessons to participate in a very intensive program. In this case you will have four group classes and one or two private classes per day, completely depending on your personal needs. One lesson consists of 50 minutes. All classes take place from Monday till Friday and begin on any Monday.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Apart from the regular Spanish lessons you will also have the unique opportunity to combine the above mentioned courses (group, intensive and private course) with either dancing or music instrument lessons. These additional workshops take place every day for one hour after classes. For any additional information please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Once in Cuba, you can always get in touch with our local contact persons. They support you with the organization of several excursions within Santiago de Cuba or to other places of the country you would like to go to. You are very welcome to participate in a historical city tour or to join a visit to the Museo del Ron where you get a detailed insight into the Cuban history of rum. The mountains of Sierra de la Gran Piedra, located near Santiago de Cuba, represent the natural beauty of the country and should definitely be part of your travel schedule. There you can also find the highest point of the country and will definitely enjoy an amazing view.

ACCOMMODATION
Our goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and to make you part of the Cuban culture. Staying with local host families gives you the opportunity to experience the Cuban family life and customs. You will have your own room. Breakfast and dinner are included and served by the host family. The families live in a quiet and residential area of the district Reparto Sueño in Santiago de Cuba. The well-known Céspedes Park, also known as the heart of Santiago, is only a few walking minutes away. The park invites for long walks, meeting with friends or just to relax and listen to the beautiful rhythms coming from the nearby hotel Casa Grande.
