Course

The Spanish school in Cusco offers courses based on Language & Cultural Immersion. This means you will intensively learn the Spanish language and acquire a deep insight into the local culture and the Inca heritage. The Spanish language programs are designed efficiently to ensure you meet your Spanish goals in a short period of time. The Spanish lessons are high quality with all the teachers experienced in teaching Spanish to foreigners. The courses are divided into different levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced levels) to ensure similar language skills in each class. On the first day of class, you will take a placement test to determine your individual Spanish skills.

The Spanish lessons focus on three different topics: studying new grammar and deepening the application of this new grammar through different exercises and conversation training. The teaching methodology was created by the Spanish school itself and reflects the experience of each teacher.

The Spanish courses in Cusco take place year round and you can determine your own schedule. The courses start every Monday. Each Spanish lesson lasts 45 minutes.

Group course: The group course consists of 20 lessons per week, 4 Spanish lessons each day. There is a maximum of 6 students per class to ensure individual help and a fast learning. (If there are not enough students to set up a group, you will get private lessons. Amount of lessons will be reduced to 14 hours).

Intensive course: The intensive course is made up of the mentioned group courses in the morning and 5 additional private classes each week in the afternoon. Students can broaden their knowledge obtained in the group course and eliminate personal weaknesses or repeat complex learning content.

Private course: The private course consists of 20 weekly lessons. It allows personal and focused orientation by a private teacher as well as an individualized learning pace. The weekly schedule can be reduced to 10 hours or increased to 30 hours because lessons can be booked or eliminated according to your needs.

Non-academic activities:
Learning the Spanish language is the first step in getting to know the Peruvian culture and way of life. Apart from the regular classes, the language school also offers a wide range of different cultural activities. During the week you can explore the narrow streets and diverse museums and witness local cultural events. You can also try some delicious Peruvian cuisine! On weekends you can visit the monuments and tourist attractions around Cusco. The Sacred Valley, the city of Pisaq and its craft market, as well as the ruins of Chinchero and Ollantaytambo, are examples of Incan urban planning. If you are an adventurous nature lover, you can take a trip to Manu National Park or Pongo de Mainique in the jungle. Everyone who visits Cusco has to discover the historical miracle Machu Picchu and the well-known Inca trail accessible from the city.

Accommodation

During your stay at the Spanish school in Cusco we want you to be involved with the local culture as much as possible. We recommend you to take advantage of a home stay to practice Spanish and be exposed to local culture. Middle-class families are carefully selected and provide each student with a private room and 3 meals each day. Do not assume that you are too old for a home stay as many of our students are older than their host "parents." For many of our students, their home stay is one of the most rewarding experiences they have while studying abroad. Breakfast. lunch and dinner are served by the family and included in the accommodation fee.

Additionally we offer accommodation in mid-class hotels or residences, in case you do not want to live in a home stay. Prices are available upon request and subject to availability.

Volunteering

Social commitment is in great demand! In Peru the social differences are still very obvious. There is a huge gap between rich and poor people. Many families live in poverty and are dependent on external help. Sick and handicapped children are often repudiated, forcing them to stay at hospitals or children's homes. Many old people live in nursing homes or on the streets while sick people cannot afford to pay for necessary surgery or medical treatment.

In addition to our Spanish courses in Cusco, we provide volunteer work positions. You can combine your Spanish course with volunteer work and dedicate half of the day to volunteering or you can schedule the volunteer experience after the Spanish course is completed. While helping people in need, volunteering allows you to practice your Spanish in real life situations and train your newly acquired skills. In cooperation with different social institutions and non-profit organizations we offer various volunteer work projects in Cusco. You will meet people in special situations who will be very thankful for your help, and will enjoy your company while learning about your home country.

This learning and cultural experience will be unforgettable!

Location

Cusco, also known as “the city of miracles”, is the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco is the most visited city of Peru and certainly one of the most visited in South America. The city of Cusco is located southeast of the Peruvian Andes Mountains and has approximately 1.2 million inhabitants. The world-famous archaeological site Machu Picchu (“Old Mountain”), which was once inhabited by the Incas, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and just one in many treasures surrounding Cusco. The Sacred Valley of Urubamba, a mysterious valley where you can find other ancient Inca ruins, represents some of the most charming landscapes in Peru.

Many places in Cusco enjoy an exceptionally international atmosphere that invites and encourage visitors to extend their stay for more days. The most popular site is the Plaza de Armas with its nice colonial buildings. Around this plaza you will find delicious restaurants, bars, hostels, hotels, beautiful houses with typical Spanish balconies and many small streets inviting you to stroll around discover the history and old traditions.

Cusco has rapidly developed its infrastructure because of the growing tourism sector. It never lost its historical charm while indigenous cultures remain powerful and omnipresent. It is definitively worth a visit!

Country information Peru

PeruPeru sits in the vicinity of many countries. To the north is Ecuador and Colombia, Brazil to the east, Bolivia to the southeast, Chile to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The Andes mountain range runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean, dividing the country into three geographic regions of coastline, Andes highlands and Amazonian jungle. About 60% of the countries territory is rainforest area, which qualifies Peru as the fourth country of great tropical forest expansion after Brazil, Congo and Indonesia.

Peru contains over 20,000 years of cultural reflection. Throughout the country exists historical evidence and traditional ways of life that are still alive today. Visitors often report their amazement of the abundant remains of former cultures, mystic tribes and Inca Empire deposits. A place like Chavín, a former pilgrim center, is where the culture of the Paracas and Pucarás and the gigantic Nazca lines are still all part of the rich culture. Last but not least, Peru is home to both the World Heritage city of Cusco, as well as the world famous Machu Picchu (one of the Seven Wonders of the World). Peru invites travelers to enjoy the country outside of the world of history as well with wonderful beaches, impervious jungles, fascinating Peruvian culture, and traditional Peruvian food and drink.

The three climatic zones of Peru entail three ideal times to visit this country. The average daily temperature of the Andes region is around 50°F with freezing nightly temperatures. Early June through August is the dry season of the mountainous region. Still, during the rainiest months of December through March the rainfall is minimal. The hot months of the highlands are December through March with extreme dry air; this coastal strip sees little rain year round. In the tropical regions, April through November entails humid weather and many picture perfect foggy mornings. The all-around peak season of travel to Peru is between June and August with drier weather and warm beach days! Lastly, the elevation of Peru makes all of these norms unpredictable as you explore higher into the Andes.

The Peruvians in general, are rather reserved and timid, but once you take steps to ¨break the ice,¨ you will discover that they are very warm and friendly people.
