Asunción (full name: Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Asunción) is the capital of Paraguay with only about 500,000 people living in the city and about 1,8 million people living in the surrounding areas making it one of the smallest capitals in South America. The city sits on the shores of Rio Paraguay and houses many fabulous places such as the Manzana de la Rivera - Casa Viola, an ancient colonial building whose foundations were laid in 1750. Culture aside, the country's capital also offers excellent shopping opportunities with the biggest mall; Shopping del Sol. Asunción offers an excellent nightlife in the downtown part of the capital and the neighborhoods of Manora and Las Camelitas where there are endless nightclubs and amazing bars. The Mercado 4 is a popular market with small labyrinthine streets where you can buy vegetables and much more.

Country information Paraguay |
Paraguay is one of only two landlocked countries in South America. Holding over 157,000 square miles of land, the country borders Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia. Paraguay has upwards of 6.7 million inhabitants and is one of the smaller countries on the South American continent. Asunción, the country's capital entails only 10% of the population.
Paraguay’s landscapes are dominated by grassy plains and wooded hills. The climate ranges from subtropical eastern conditions, to drier weather in the west. Though the country is only about the size of California, daily climatic variations exist between blue skies and hot weather in the west, to rainy humid conditions in the east. Though very few tourists seem to travel to this country, Paraguay is home to breathtaking virgin forests. Incredible amounts of wildlife and flora reside in the undeveloped terrains of this beautiful country. Further, you will be amazed by how many different kinds of plants and animals you can find here. This landscape makes Paraguay an ideal place for safari adventures! Over 90% of the Paraguayans are Mestizos or Guaraní, making the language of the indigenous people the second official language of the country. Nearly all Paraguayans can speak both Spanish and their native tongue fluently. In addition to preserved culture, Paraguay also holds some world famous infrastructure. In the southeastern border formed by the Paraná River contains the Itaipú dam. This dam shared by Brazil, is currently the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world. Another large hydroelectric power plant on the same river is Yacyretá, a collaborative project by Paraguay and Argentina. The best time to visit Paraguay typically ranges between the winter months of May through September. Though the nights are cold, the average daily temperature is 71°F. The summer months can sometimes be unpleasant with uniform heat blasting east to west across the country. The average daily high in January and February is around 95°F. Considering the mostly humid climate of Paraguay, both summer and all seasons receive an equal distribution of rain. Come and discover this beautiful land where few go, to explore waterfalls, incredible landscapes and become a part of the indigenous culture that is still very much alive!
