The volunteer program takes place in the beautiful region of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Volunteers are placed in different small rural schools in the areas of Minca, Guachaca and Palomino.

School
Our Partner School is the main Spanish school in Colombia. Due to its high quality of teaching methods and the variety of courses offered, our partner school is one of the most frequented Spanish schools in Colombia. All of the teachers have a professional degree in modern languages and at least two years of experience in teaching Spanish as a foreign language.The school is located in one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Bogotá, Quinta Camacho. It is easily accessible by public transport and it takes only 15 minutes to the historic area "Candelaria". In addition, if you want to enjoy some Colombian food, art, and entertainment in this area, there are many nice restaurants, galleries, bookshops, and coffee shops.
Our partner school offers weekly opportunities to engage in culturally rich activities such as visits to museums, natural parks, beaches, concerts, sightseeing tours, hiking, restaurants, and sporting events. These social and educational outings are ideal to practice the language and attain a better understanding of the society around you.
Course
In Bogotá, we offer a wide variety of different courses. We are sure that one of them will fit your individual plans and purposes. Courses always take place from Monday through Friday and can be started on any Monday of the year (unless it is a national Holiday). One academic hour lasts 50 minutes.The Group Course is a half day course, making it easy to combine classes with sight seeing, work or social life. This course focuses on the improvement of your communication skills, working on your listening, conversation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and pronunciation. The Group Course includes 20 hours per week consisting in 15 hours of Spanish lessons (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 m.) and 5 hours of cultural activities outside the school (on 2 afternoons). There are in average between 4 and 6 students per class.
The Intensive Course has the same methodic focus as the Group Course but offers a longer daily schedule. It includes 25 hours per week consisting in 20 hours of Spanish lessons (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 m.) and 5 hours of cultural activities outside the school (on 2 afternoons).
The Private Course offers you the opportunity to have individual attention through private lessons. Your teacher will focus in improving your communication skills, listening comprehension, conversation, grammar, vocabulary, reading and pronunciation. You can also set your personal study plan with your teacher in accordance with your personal learning goals and needs. The Private Course consists in 15 academic hours per week (extra classes can be added).
The Spanish & Volunteering Course gives you the unique chance to give back to society! After your Spanish course during the morning hours you work in an orphanage, a hospital or another charity organization. This combination includes 32 hours per week, consisting of 15 hours of Spanish lessons, 12 hours of volunteer work and 5 hours of cultural activities. Language lessons take place in the morning, volunteer work and cultural activities are scheduled for the afternoon.
The Spanish & Dance Course combines the Intensive Course in the morning with dancing classes by a professional instructor in the afternoon. This exclusive package gives you the opportunity to switch off from the language lessons moving your hips to traditional Latin American dances such as Salsa, Tango, Merengue and others typically Colombian dances such as Cumbia and Vallenatos.
For all the courses you are going to take a short grading test in order to determine your current Spanish skills. According to them you will be grouped in one of the 6 learning levels.
Note: Additional costs for bus tickets or entrances during the cultural activities must be paid by the student.
Accommodation
An important aspect of our Spanish programs in Colombia is the total immersion into local society. This is why we accommodate our Spanish students in Bogotá in carefully chosen host families. You will sleep in a single room. You can either book with breakfast or with half board (breakfast and dinner). Your clothes will be washed once a week by your host family. All families live in quiet and nice neighborhoods. Public transport are within easy walking distance.Colombians are very warm and friendly people. You will be part of the family very quickly and experience the authentic Colombian way of life!

Location
Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and its economic and cultural center. Including the suburbs it counts 8 million inhabitants who come from all over Colombia and even the world. Bogotá is located in the middle of the Andes, on a fertile plateau. Due to its position near the equator, the local climate is very rain-laden und there are hardly any seasons. Bogotá is located about 2.650 meters above sea level, thus the yearly average temperature is about 15 °C.In Bogotá you will find beautiful colonial, republican and modern buildings. In the historic district "Candelaria" you will not only find beautiful houses dating from the colonial era, but also feel the atmosphere of students and an alternative lifestyle in the nice cafés, bars and restaurants.
Bogotá is a real hot spot! Apart from political events there are particularly many exciting cultural events and a lot of dance shows, cinemas or theatres. Culture addicts can choose among 50 museums and art exhibitions. Last but not least Colombia's biggest city offers also a very lively night life. Make sure to visit a traditional "salsateca" with its live music almost every night!
