School

The Spanish school in Buenos Aires is located in Recoleta, one of the finest and most traditional neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Many restaurants, bars, cafes, attractive parks, museums, movie theaters and shops occupy the area. Recoleta is an upper-middle class neighborhood and is safe at all hours. The school building is constructed in the traditional porteño style with marble stairs, mosaic floors, a terrace and several balconies. There are 18 classrooms and several common areas with free Internet access that students can enjoy during breaks. The school is centrally located, only a few minutes away from the subway, buses and student housing.

The school is part of a Spanish school network in South America and has subsidiaries in Argentina, Chile and Peru. They are all among the best schools in South America and for many years have guaranteed an international standard of high quality.

The school has highly qualified and friendly staff as well as a warm and social atmosphere to make your stay unforgettable!

Course

As the Spanish language has become more and more important over the years, the language school in Buenos Aires offers special programs which promote speaking as well as listening comprehension. All teachers have a university degree and a lot of experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language. The lessons are divided into twelve different levels (four in each beginner, intermediate and advanced levels) to ensure similar language skills in each class. On the first day of class, you will take a placement test to determine your Spanish skills. Classes focus on three different topics: studying grammar, deepening and applying new grammar through different exercises, and training conversationally.

The friendly and motivated teachers, all native Spanish speakers, will teach you in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It is completely up to you which Spanish course you choose to book. You can choose among three different kinds of courses available for any Spanish level. Classes last 50 minutes and take place from Monday to Friday always starting on Mondays. One academic hour has 50 minutes.

Group course:
If you like to get to know other international students and study Spanish with them, then the group course is best for you. The class has a maximum of six students to ensure personalized instruction and a fitting study environment. The standard group course consists of 20 classes per week.

Intensive course:
The intensive course combines the group course and additional private lessons. This assures you receive more personalized attention and allows you to review any difficulties or repeat certain topics with your private teacher according to the material in the group course. You set the schedule for the individual lessons and choose from 1 up to 10 additional lessons per week.

Private course:
Some students book private lessons with a professor for 100% individualized attention. Classes are customized to your needs and they are an excellent option for professionals who seek a specialized vocabulary for specific situations. The private course consists of 20 hours per week.

Non-academic activities:
Learning a language does not always have to take place in the classroom. The school invites you to the weekly activities including city tours, cooking lessons, museum tours, walks in the parks, bar hopping, and, of course, tango shows, football matches or delicious barbecues while exploring the neighborhoods of this great city. During the weekend the school organizes trips to the Tigre Delta, Mendoza, Tandil, Córdoba, or to other places to enjoy local parties and the beautiful countryside. For adventure loving people there is horseback riding, trekking, rappel and canoeing available.

Accommodation

All students stay with well chosen host families, all of whom live in very safe areas in and around Buenos Aires and are experienced in fulfilling the students’ wishes and needs. Living in a typical Argentinean home demonstrates to you the Argentinean way of life as you will immediately become a member of the family. The families live either within walking distance to the Spanish school or a few minutes away by bus. Half-board is included in the price.

To make you feel as home as possible while staying in Buenos Aires we will do everything we can to find the perfect housing option for you. If you want to live with other international students or young professionals instead of sharing a house with a host family, we will be glad to organize a room in a shared apartment for you. Bathroom and kitchen are usually shared with your flat mates.

Volunteering

Social commitment is in great demand! In Argentina the social differences are still very prevalent. There is a huge gap between rich and poor people. Many families live in poverty and are dependent on external help. Sick and handicapped children are often repudiated and forced to stay in hospitals or children's homes. Many old people live in nursing homes or on the streets while many sick people do not have the money to pay for the necessary surgery or medical treatment.

In addition to our Spanish courses in Buenos Aires we provide volunteer work positions. You can combine your Spanish course with half-day volunteer work or you can schedule the volunteer experience after the Spanish course is completed.

While helping people in need, volunteering allows you to practice your Spanish in real life situations and train your newly acquired skills. In cooperation with different social institutions and non-profit organizations we offer various volunteer work projects in Argentina. You will meet people in special situations who will be very thankful for your help, and will enjoy your company while learning about your home country.

This learning and cultural experience will be unforgettable.

Location

Look out culture fans! Buenos Aires is the capital of culture in South America! Whether it is concerts, theatres or the famous tango shows – Buenos Aires has something to offer everybody! Buenos Aires is full of countless pubs, cafes, colorful neighborhoods and a very active nightlife, ensuring many weeks or even months of fun and exploration while learning and practicing Spanish! Argentina's capital is often called the Paris of South America because of its beautiful architecture and picturesque city streets. Buenos Aires is famous for its restaurants, theatres, tango shows, designer boutiques and many other diverse attractions. A trip to Buenos Aires is even more enticing when you take into account the low cost of living; since the peso crashed some years ago, the city has become a rare gem for budget-conscious travelers. The favorable currency exchange rates for dollars, Euros and yen have made Buenos Aires a top destination in South America.

The combination of Latin American and European influences gives the city a very special flair. Buenos Aires is located next to the Río de la Plata and with the fresh sea air cleansing the city of smog despite its three million inhabitants and the additional 11.5 million people living in the metropolitan area. A far bigger problem is the amount of traffic and the drivers who sometimes do not follow the rules of the road.

Learn tango or follow in the footsteps of Evita and Che Guevara! You will never get bored in Buenos Aires because the city never sleeps!

Country Information Argentina

ArgentinaArgentina, the second largest country in South America and eighth largest in the world has much to offer the passerby and long-term tourist alike. Argentina’s continental area extends west along the Andes mountain range, east along the Atlantic Ocean and neighbors the countries of Paraguay and Bolivia to the North, Brazil and Uruguay to the Northeast and Chile to the West. The total Argentinean coast is about 2,400 miles long from north to south and 870 miles from east to west. The country is home to over 40 million people, with the capital of Buenos Aires and greater surrounding district entailing 13 million inhabitants. These numbers enlist Buenos Aires as one of the largest cities in the world.

One can find a huge variety of climates and landscapes from the north sub-tropical regions to the south sub-polar conditions. Further, the Andes Mountains stoically border two climatic regions of humid Argentina and aired Chile. Argentina offers such diverse landscapes at such an immense size, that any South American tourist could find happy haven in its territory. From the infamous Patagonia region, northern highlands, rainforests complete with the Iguazu Waterfalls, there are limitless adventures to explore!

In addition to landscape and weather variety, Argentina is also a country full of abundant natural resources, diversified agricultural sector and laden with cultural hot spots. The most well known hot spot is Buenos Aires located in the mid-eastern part of Argentina. Moreover, the country has a rich history of excellent literature, film production, famous theaters and musical fame (¡especially in rock and tango!).

For those cultural, site-seeing, city buffs, we highly recommended the Argentinean spring (September-November) and fall (March-May). The summer months (December- February) hold hot and humid weather good for lazy days by the pool or temperate sleeping nights in the mountains. Attention back-country adventurers, summer is surely the best time to discover a mild and accessible Patagonia. Finally, for the skiers, snow begins to fill back into the mountains and resorts open again around mid-June to October.

We are sure you will find the Argentinean people warm, friendly and pleased to welcome and introduce you to their beautiful country!
