1. What are the current visa regulations for Cuba?
Every tourist receives upon arrival in the country a so-called tarjeta de turismo which allows you to stay for up to 30 days in Cuba. This tourist card can be extended for another 30 days once you are in the country.
Note: American citizens have to follow special immigration regulations because Cuba is only accessible from certain countries and cities for them.
Please find more information about Cuban immigration and visa regulations in our link section!
2. How long does my passport have to be valid when entering Cuba?

3. What about the airport tax when leaving Cuba?
On your departure from Cuba it is very important to bear in mind that you have to pay an airport tax, which can only be paid in cash and in the local currency CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos). Currently, the airport tax is 25 CUC (approximately 27 USD) for international flights. There is no airport tax for domestic flights.
4. Which currency is used in Cuba? What is the current exchange rate?
There are two different currencies in Cuba: the CUP (Cuban Peso) and the CUC (Cuban Convertible Peso). The banknotes of the CUP come in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Cuban Pesos. There are coins of 1, 2, 3, 5, 20 and 40 Cents. Please note that bills with a value of 100 CUP and the coins of 1, 2 and 40 Cents are rarely used. In November 2004 the US-Dollar was replaced by the CUC, which has been the national currency since then and therefore the US-Dollar will no longer be accepted within the country. The CUC is also known as the “touristic US-Dollar”. The banknotes of the CUC come in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Cuban Convertible Pesos and the coins of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 Cents. Both currencies are acceptable throughout the country even if the CUC is more frequently used among visitors.
Please find the current exchange rate on www.oanda.com or www.xe.com.
5. Where can I exchange money in Cuba? Is it possible to withdraw money or pay by credit card?
Foreign currencies like US- and Canadian Dollars, Euros, British Pounds and Swiss Francs can be exchanged into CUC in any exchange office within the country without any problems. Please bear in mind that you will be charged a 10% extra fee from the total amount when exchanging USD into CUC. Traveler checks as well as credit cards will be accepted throughout the country unless they are issued by a US-American institution (e.g. AMEX). Thomas Cook traveler checks will be accepted without any problem. You can withdraw money with credit cards (Euro/MasterCard, Visa, Diners, etc.) from any cash machine and at any bank office in bigger cities. Since the cash machines in Cuba do not always work properly we recommend bringing enough cash.

7. When is the best time for visiting Cuba?
Due to its geographical location Cuba is characterized by a tropical and very humid climate throughout the whole year. Since the average temperature of 25ºC does generally not vary, Cuba is an attractive tourist destination all year round. During the rainy season from May till October there are heavy rainfalls within the country and the risk of cyclones is relatively high. The optimum travel period for Cuba is therefore from October till April and the hottest months are July and August. During the dry season you can enjoy the beautiful beaches and activities like boat or diving excursions or many other opportunities the country has to offer.
