Do you love being outdoors, like animals, and have no problem with physically challenging work? If so, then this volunteer work in the South of Chile is perfect for you! This volunteer project takes place in the south of Puerto Montt, where the famous Patagonia begins. The volunteer work is carried out with a community of local farmers who all have a different focus, such as agriculture, production of food, or cattle breeding. The farms are located in the midst of beautiful nature, far away from city noises and pollution. As you work and live with the locals, you will learn a lot about nature and farm life in Chile as you gain a unique insight into the Chilean culture and mentality. You too, can share your culture with them since they will be curious to find out more about you. This makes for a great intercultural exchange, and you will learn a lot from each other. Life in Patagonia can be very challenging and hard, especially during the long winter. The goal of the community is to make a profit and help each other. All the farmers are interdependent yet support each other in different work areas while sharing their products. This concept is quite common in Chile and a great way to live independently off of locally sourced goods and products. In your free time, you can explore the beautiful nature of the area. Hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding are just a few of some amazing outdoor activities that you can embark on during your days off.

During your time as a volunteer for this project, you will have the opportunity to rotate between different farms and spend a week at each place with a different farmer’s family. This way, you will gain insights into all kinds of different work areas and learn many new skills. Some of your tasks will include:

  Agriculture and farming
  Animal Care
  Harvesting
  Gardening
  Maintenance and Cleaning
Assisting the elderly that need help with physical hard work
  More agriculturally related tasks
While volunteering in Patagonia, you will be accommodated in a single or shared room. This depends on the number of volunteers that are a part of the project. If you are spending each week on a different farm, you will also change your accommodation. In any case, you will live with the owners of each farm. There, you will share restrooms and common rooms. Furthermore, you will receive full board in form of three healthy meals every day.
