Skills

Experience as an Au Pair or with babysitting is an advantage but not requested. You should be very fond of children, open-minded and easy to talk to. Other important character traits include being very reliable, responsible and helpful.

Being an Au Pair in Chile gives you the chance to fully immerse yourself in South American culture, as you will be living with a family and getting to know the typical Chilean lifestyle.

As an Au Pair, you can leave your comfort zone behind for a while and get to know a totally different culture. A stay abroad in South America promises personal growth and independence, lifelong friendships, and a host of wonderful memories and experiences. Additionally, you can use your monthly allowance to save up for travel during your time off or after your Au Pair program has ended. The monthly allowance can vary depending on your work schedule and the family's budget, but usually it ranges from 150.000 to 250.000 Chilean Pesos, which is approx. 225 to 370 USD (depending on exchange rate).

While working as an Au Pair in South America, your main task will be taking care of your host family's children and helping with day-to-day household chores. Languages usually play a big role for families who decide to take in a foreign Au Pair as they plan to raise their children bilingual. Our experienced staff handpicks all host families. We not only visit them at home but also thoroughly question them about their needs and wishes regarding their Au Pair to ensure you a perfect match.

Your responsibilities during your Au Pair program may include (but are not limited to):
  Bringing the kids to school or kindergarten
  Singing, playing, and planning activities for and with the kids
  Helping with homework
  Taking walks around the neighborhood or to the playground
  Supervising the children during their morning routine and helping them get ready for school
  Keeping the the house and the kitchen tidy
  Preparing breakfast for the children
  Loading and unloading the washing machine, watering the plants, and other easy household chores

The work hours for an Au Pair in Chile can be anywhere from 30 to 40 hours per week, but please keep in mind that babysitting at night or on weekends is also within your duties as an Au Pair.

The minimum participation time for this program is 3 months so that you and your host family can get used to one another. This duration also gives you the chance to truly adjust to Chile and its culture. The maximum time for your stay abroad is 12 months. Of course, we will give you the chance to get to know your host family via video (Skype) call and emails before the final placement to clarify any questions and to get to know each other.

During your Au Pair program in Chile, you will be given a private room with access to all common areas in your host family's home. Your host family will also provide you with full board during your stay in Chile. You will be considered a part of the family – a once in a lifetime chance to broaden your cultural and linguistic knowledge. As a member of the family, you will be asked to obey and follow all house rules. Always maintain a healthy amount of respect for your host family, the foreign culture, and different lifestyle.

  Download and complete our application form, read all information thoroughly. The more details you provide us about yourself and your expectations, the easier it is for us to find a suitable host family.

Please remember to also provide your CV and at least 3 recent pictures of yourself (if you have pictures that show you playing with children or with your younger siblings – great!). Using these documents, we will prepare your profile in Spanish and introduce you to our host families.

  Once we receive your application fee of 120 USD (see application form for more details), we start the search for a suitable host family and the organization for your stay abroad in South America.

The placement process may take anywhere between 3 and 12 weeks. We will keep you posted about any progress during this period of time and are always open to your questions and concerns.
